On the Trail of the Central Apennine Truffle

The Truffle Trail is a winding route that weaves through the valleys and cities of the Central Apennine region. It is here that one can experience the territories, study them in depth with an eye to excellence offered: the truffles, the serene and evocative landscapes, the cities and towns with their hidden treasures, the tradition of handicrafts, the cuisine and the wholesome, refined flavours. This is the common denominator of all the Apennine river valleys.

Whether in Tuscany, Emilia Romagna, the Marches or Umbria, they all offer a variety of individual types, a framework within which the physical Trail offers an opportunity for pleasure and discovery.
This incredible Trail fully satisfies the travel needs of those who seek new, unusual itineraries. And truffles galore.

Truffles ― that mysterious and fascinating product ― come in two colours: white and black. The colour and aroma change from one season to the next, following the flow of the surrounding nature. And each year it is gratifying, for both spirit and palate, to follow its flavour.
Truffle-hunting in the Central Apennine region or as the locals say “andare per tartufi” is perhaps one of the best ways to get to know this area.

For those who love art and history it is difficult to find an area that has such a wealth of monuments from the past. For those who love nature and the great outdoors, it would be difficult to find something more pleasant than a day in a holiday farm or in one of the many hotels in this part of the Apennines. For lovers of good food, in this area it is impossible to find a restaurant that does not offer at least one truffle-based specialty. This Truffle Trail can be travelled at any time and in any season because in the Apennines truffles are present all year round.
The tuber magnatum pico or prized white truffle ripens in October and in December gives way to the premium black truffle. Then, in the early spring, we have the winter black truffle, the musky truffle and the whitish truffle while during the hot Apennine summers there are the summer truffles and the rare smooth black truffle. Indeed, the season for truffles continues on into fall with the Burgundy truffles and the common Bagnoli truffle in the month of September.
